Biography

After receiving his PhD, Mike Inoue remained at OSU for 15 years as a faculty member in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. In 1982, he joined Kyocera International, Inc. where he was manager of a consumer products group, a vice president for the company’s Vancouver, Washington start-up, a vice president of corporate technology and planning, and senior advisor, a position he held until his retirement in 2004. In his various assignments, Inoue was instrumental in the growth and development of Kyocera’s operations in North America. In 2006, the government of Japan appointed Inoue Honorary Consul General of Japan in San Diego. He is president emeritus of the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana, a member of the San Diego Consular Corps, and author of several publications, including Introduction to Operations Research and Management Science with James L. Riggs, his mentor and a 1999 Engineering Hall of Fame inductee.
